Damon Cottrell, PhD, DNP, FNP-C, APRN

Damon Cottrell has been in nursing for over 30 years. He began practicing as an advanced practice registered nurse in 1999 as an Adult Acute and Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist. In 2012 he transitioned to practice as a Nurse Practitioner with a focus on emergency and urgent care. His areas of clinical interest are LGBTQ+ health, urgent care, and primary care. He is board certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Credentialing Center and American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

Damon completed his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees at Texas Woman's University in Dallas, TX. He was awarded a post-master’s certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Indiana State University. Damon holds both a practice and research doctorate. He achieved a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Robert Morris University, Moon Township, PA, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Texas at Tyler.

Damon is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association, Association of Colleges of Nursing, National League for Nursing, Texas Nurses Association, District 4 Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, LGBTQ Health Caucus, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and Southern Nursing Research Society. He is a tenured professor and the Interim Dean at Texas Woman's University College of Nursing.

On a personal note, Damon enjoys the arts, especially the visual arts and photography. In his spare time, he enjoys being at home and spending time with his partner and their two Weimaraners.
